Competition terms and conditions

To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all participants, please review the following essential terms and conditions for The Arts of Tau'olunga Competition. Understanding these guidelines is crucial for a smooth entry and preparation process.

1. Eligibility: Open to all ethnicities and nationalities.


2. Age Verification: Contestants must provide

   valid ID, passport, or birth certificate to prove age.


3. Participation: Contestants can participate from

    anywhere. 


4. No Refunds: No refunds for cancellations or any

   excuses after June 1, 2026.


6. Score Disputes: Scores can be discussed

    with the head judge and administrator.

 

7. Performance Rules: Contestants must follow

    rules and guidelines.


8. Tiebreaker: Scores will be revised in case of a tie.


9. Disqualification: Contestants can be disqualified

    for misbehavior, disrespect or rule-breaking.


10. Late Registration: Additional $100 fee after

      June 1, 2026 deadline.


11. People's Choice Award: Separate from

      competition winner.


12. Score Sheets: Score sheets are prohibited to

      handover to the contestant or any member.


13. Final Decision: CEO's decision is final in case of

      disputes or misunderstanding.

Tau'olunga Judging Criteria for
Arts of 

Tau’olunga Competition



1. Timing: Performance should be no more then 

    7 minutes.


2. Choreography (Fakahaka): Overall dance 

     arrangements and composition.

 

3. Facial Expressions (Matakakai): Use of facial

    expressions to convey emotions.


4. Hand Movements (Folahaka): Use of hands to 

    tell a story or add flair.


5. Body Movements (Teki faiva 'o e sino): Overall

    body movement and coordination.

 

6. Graceful & Performance Skills (Molumalu &

    Taukei faiva) poise, confidence, and stage presence.

 

7. Appearance (Fotunga): Overall look and 

    presentation of the contestant.

 

8. Costume Fit (Ha'i 'o e teunga): How well the 

    costume fits and completes the contestant.

 

9. Song Choice (Fasi Tau'olunga): No personal 

    songs, preferably a Queen Salote’s composition.

 

10. Overall Presentation(Tau e langi): Mastery of

      traditional movements and ability to engage

      the crowd.
